Ultrasound Scanning
In ultrasound examinations, a probe, or wand, is used with the assistance of an ultrasound gel. The gel is put on the skin of the dog and sound waves are transmitted from the probe through the gel into the body. The probe collects the ultrasound waves that are reflected from the body and returns them as echo's. These echo's are transmitted to an image that is displayed on a screen. This image, therefore, shows the internal body structures that are under examination. Veterinarians use this image to diagnose different ailments in dogs and to confirm pregnancies. This is performed from 21-35 days
Following new legislation set in June 2023 by the RCVS committee in June 2023 artificial insemination can only be performed by a qualified vet,. We have a qualified vet onsite who is able to perform artificial insemination however this will only be available on a pre booking basis. However we are still always happy to help with all natural mating assistance.

The only exception to this law for pet dogs are those who a vet believes should not be chipped for health reasons.

Vaginal cytology is performed on female dogs during their estrus cycle to help determine the optimum time to breed and enhance the success of pregnancy. The types of cells present in the vagina vary depending on the stage of estrus. A swab is taken of the cells lining the vagina and analyzed under a microscope.
